AROMATHERAPY BENEFITS AND EFFECTS

The History of Aromatherapy

The term “aromatherapy” is relatively new. It was first used in the 20th century by the French chemist Gattefossé, but the method and practice, as well as the healing properties of aromatic plants and oils, have been known for thousands of years.

The Chinese were probably one of the first cultures to use aromatic plants and oils to create harmony and balance. In addition, aromatherapy can be traced back to the ancient Egyptians, Greeks and even Romans, who valued the oils for their aromatic uses and used the powers of plant scents to treat illnesses. The Egyptians are also known to have been one of the first to build distillation machines to extract the oils, which they used in embalming the dead.
